A 3D scanner is a device that analyses a real-world object to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance like color, size, etc. The "picture" as produced by a 3D scanner describes the distance of object to the surface at each point in the picture. The collected data then can be used to construct digital three-dimensional models. This device is used extensively by the entertainment industry in the production of movies and video games, including virtual reality.

A vinyl cutter is a computer-controlled machine. Like a printer controls a nozzle, the computer controls the movement of a sharp blade of the machine. This blade cuts out the desired shapes and letters from thin self-adhesive plastic sheets called vinyl. As vinyl material is available in long rolls, banners and billboards that are significantly of a larger length can also be easily cut. The prime limitation with these cutters is the restriction to cut shapes from only solid colored sheets of vinyl.

A laser cutter uses a laser beam to cut through a sheet of material some of which are wood, plastics, rubber or even leather. The laser cutter can also engrave metal or stone to a limited depth. Sheet metal can be cut and bend into a variety of shapes finding numerous applications in car bodies, airplane wings and many other things. This machine takes shapes to be cut on the sheet in, as input of a high resolution raster image via laptop and cuts the sheet accordingly. Results have shown that the performance of this machine meets well the industry requirements at a much lower development cost.
